HowTo: Fix VLC Horizontal Tearing Lines in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
If you use Ubuntu 10.04 LTS most likely that you will have issues with Nvidia Card + VLC + One or Two LCDs. Here is small tutorial on how to fix all this.
LCD Monitors Used: 2
NVidia Drivers Used: 195.36.24
NOTE: Tested on one and two LCDs, works good.
First make sure your vlc settings is correct:

Tools -> Preferences -> Video
Output: Default
Then open Nvidia Settings and enable following options:
gksudo nvidia-settings

X Server XVideo Settings
Enable, Sync to VBlack
—
OpenGL Settings
Enable, Sync to VBlack
Now open Compiz Config, if you don’t have it installed install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

Then enable following options:

System -> Preferences -> CompizConfig Settings Manager -> General -> General Options
Under General Tab, check “Unredirect Fullscreen Windows”.
Under Display Settings, check “Sync To VBlack” and
Select Texture Filter, Best
Now if you want to use two LCDs do this:

gksudo nvidia-settings
In “X Server XVideo Settings” select under “Sync to this display device” and select the LCD you want to watch VLC video in.
